Robynne Chutkan, MD

Robynne Chutkan, MD, FASGE

Dr. Chutkan received her bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1987 and her medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1991. She completed her internship and residency at Columbia where she served as Chief Resident. After completing her fellowship in Gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in 1997, she joined the faculty in the Gastroenterology Division at Georgetown Hospital.

In 2004 Dr. Chutkan founded the Digestive Center for Women in Chevy Chase, Maryland, an integrative practice that includes a nutritionist, massage therapist, and exercise physiologist. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and serves on numerous committees and boards. She is currently one of two women on the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Governing Board and is the immediate past Chair of the Training Committee for the ASGE. Dr. Chutkan also serves on the Women’s Committee for the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Gastroenterology. She has served as Vice-President for Education for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America Chapter Medical Advisory Committee and is actively involved in patient and physician education.

In addition to digestive disorders in women, her clinical areas of interest include inflammatory bowel diseases, video capsule endoscopy, and nutrition and weight loss. Dr. Chutkan has authored dozens of journal articles and book chapters. She has been a featured lecturer throughout the United States and internationally, including Chile, Uruguay, Croatia, Spain, Italy and the Caribbean. She has also served as a medical consultant for Discovery Health channel and numerous pharmaceutical companies. She has been a frequent guest on local news programs speaking on digestive disorders, nutrition and weight loss. She is dedicated to helping her patients live not just longer, but better.
